STONE FRUIT COMPOTE, BROWN SUGAR, GRAHAM CRACKER

Producer

  • Smallholder farmers delivering to Mahiga Factory (wet mill) under the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society.
  • Typically hundreds of local family farms contributing cherry from surrounding hillsides.

Region

  • Nyeri County, Central Highlands of Kenya, on the western slopes of Mount Kenya.
  • High elevations (≈1,700–1,900+ meters) with cool nights and consistent rainfall, which supports slow cherry development and dense beans.

Altitude: 1,800 m.a.s.l.
Varietal:

  • Primarily classic Kenyan cultivars: SL28 and SL34
  • Often supported by newer disease-resistant varieties such as Ruiru 11 and Batian (exact mix varies by lot).

Soil:

  • Deep, fertile red volcanic loam, rich in organic matter and minerals from Mount Kenya’s volcanic activity.
  • Excellent drainage and nutrient density contribute to high acidity clarity and complex fruit character common to Nyeri coffees
