Welcome to Bolden Beans Coffee Co.

Telling the story of how we got started has more twists and turns than a pile of strings. One moment that stands out took place in the home basement of our founder, Eric Bolden, where a group of friends were fantasizing about life after the year 2020 and if we were to do anything else in that moment what would it be. Both Eric and his partner Tricia reminisced of their experiences traveling abroad, embracing career opportunities that were community-centric, and the opportunity to use something as a vehicle to tell stories. Almost without hesitation coffee came to mind for Eric. And when he gets his mind fixed on something its hard for him to move away from it. 

That night turned into a successful logo design; the one we still use today! That week turned into intensive research on how to get started. The next month he purchased two Whirly Pops as a hard launch into roasting. He took countless detailed notes and, honestly, made a lot of poorly roasted coffee. But the effort was unwavering and soon there was tolerable coffee to consume, and that device evolved to the next. By this time Eric was roasting at any opportunity he could get and was daring enough to have people try it. As it would turn out, people loved it! Two years later the business was officially organized in Washington, DC and in 2022 Bolden Beans Coffee Co. was on the move. Fast forward to today and the now "family" business has taken new roots in Chicago, IL. A number of visits to coffee growing countries, farms, research institutes, and specialty conventions behind us, and we've found ourselves simply wanting to stick to how we started. Just a group of friends, gathered together, and enjoying story telling. We absolutely love to nerd out about coffee. We want to tell the stories of the hands that contribute to bringing this amazing product to you from farm to channel to cup, but our goal is to simply roast quality, great tasting coffee that fuels conversations, connections, and community. Whether it's in your home or in our partner businesses, we strive to make every cup a reason to come together.
